Well, at least that Bravery brawl outside Great Scott last month was good for something: it got the Pill into -- wha? -- the freaking New York Times Sunday Styles section?! Let's recap our favorite lines, shall we?

    1. "Alex Zolli, in a vintage two-tone tie, claimed to come by his artfully bedroom hair naturally."

    1. You guys know We Eat So Many Shrimp, right? We're on that site all the time, 'cause we like Three Six Mafia just as much as the next Satanic drank-guzzling white people. Anyway, Shrimps dude posted long-ish about our boy Brett Milano's book on record-collecting, Vinyl Junkies. They seemed to like it, sorta.

Katastrophe junkin' at the Salvation Army in Chelsea

Speaking of girly-man rappers... cut Har Mar in half, soak him in Hedwig's juices, then rinse with an emo-hop flow, and you might get something like San Fran trans-man Katastrophe (a/k/a Rocco Kayiatos). When we were chilling with the West Coast whiteboi and his longtime ladyfriend Michelle Tea last spring, another Tee (this one named Larry) had been all up on Kayiatos’s inch-and-a-half jock.

Hint one: it's not a rock band.
    Hint two: it's a rapper.
Hint three: it's a white guy.
Hint four: he backs up his rhymes with body-slams

No, it couldn't be . . . WWE World Champion John Cena?!! Yup, the rhyming rassler and West Newbury native took Robert Plant, Green Day, Elvis, and the Star Wars soundtrack to the mat last week to wrangle a #15 debut on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart

This is what you get when you let the Noise Board pansies put together a "Heaviest Song Ever" mixtape. It's about 30 tons lighter than even something as trite as the MTV2 Headbangers Ball comps -- Tool? Nice art-rock band, but heavy? The fuck outta here -- and the Funkadelic/Beatles/VU inclusions are like some third-grader's crayon scrawling of Chuck Eddy's Stariway to Hell

It's the kind of story you can only find in Brookline: DIY community arts center teams up with hardcore-punk promoters to try and stave off eviction, raises hundreds of thousands of dollars in a matter of weeks (including contribution from one Red Sox higher-up), only to get OWNED at the last second when the landlord sells out to .

    1. Indie-rock as performance art? Last year, the local pick-up "band" Cult of Point Break formed as a sort of repertory group for indie classics. They kicked off by doing Slint's Spiderland, and within a week of their show, Slint got back together. We're pretty sure it was a coincidence and everything, but if Alex Chilton announces something special next month, you'll have these guys to thank.

    1. No, the hip-hop bloggerazzi ain't the only ones who obsess over sneakers. But after seeing Slayer's signature "old-skool" Vans, can you see why metal kids are considerably less flossy?

    2. Matthew Fluxblog waxes positive, mostly, on Allston homie Andrew Bujalski's minor-key indie-film/indie-rock masterpiece Funny Ha Ha

Since we neglected to mention it last week, Vol. 2 of Phoenix download column is up right over here: Avenged Sevenfold, mp3 version of the Tsar track we had y'all streaming a couple weeks back, Turbonegro rewind for all our Scandinavian inky-fingered thugs, plus Unseen and rehash of the inaugural Crash and Burn post, 'cause Bill dropped by and reminded us how hot that album is.

    Heads up.

Blog shift is up in Steel City this weekend, scouting draft picks and childrens museums. Saturday afternoon, the Overdraught gets Frenchy punk goodness, with local stupor. Or local support. Something like that.

From France, the Fatals were born Toulouse: grainy distorto in-the-red madness.

Yep, that’s Spitz and Lemon Red last Friday at the Enormous Room for the Certified Bananas/Catchdubs throwdown. As you can see here and here and here, the Central Square par-tay was an all-stah bloggah affair. The mix coming off the decks was hot, but we specially liked that Joanna Newsom dap from last January
