To the Beach...and Some Media Notes

I'm off on vacation next week. But a few media notes on the way out the door:

  • AH Belo, the Providence Journal's parent company, said this week that it lost $6.8 million last quarter, down from a $171,000 loss in the same quarter last year. Intrepid WPRI blogger Ted Nesi was in on Belo's conference call with investors and reports that the ProJo will launch the beginnings of its long awaited paywall in August. Seems the paper will wait for the installation of a new content-management system on its web site before going full-bore, a la its sister paper the Dallas Morning News.
  • Speaking of Ted, he gets a glowing write-up on Politico for his blog, a great collection of insight, breaking news, and cheeky reflection. Big ol' congrats to Ted.
  • If you haven't yet caught "Page One," the documentary on the New York Times, head down to McAuley Hall Lawn on the Cliff Walk, Ochre Point Avenue, on the Salve Regina campus in Newport for a free outdoor screening at sundown Thursday, August 4, brought to you by newportFILM. Director Andrew Rossi and producer Kate Novack will be there for a Q&A. Music by Larry Brown & His Big Band "Swinglane" will proceed the film at 6:30 p.m.
