Republican Congressional candidate John J. Loughlin II, who is serving overseas in Iraq, has fallen behind GOP rival Brendan Doherty on the fundraising front. Doherty, the former state police superintendent, raised an impressive $250,000 in the last quarter.
But Loughlin's supporters are holding a fundraiser for him in September. And the roster of speakers and sponsors for the event speaks to the support he still enjoys from much of the party hierarchy. House Minority Leader Brian Newberry is the marquee speaker. And party chairmen from 16 different municipalities - Burrillville to Newport - are listed as "city and town chairs for Loughlin."
