NYT: Kennedy Memoir Forthcoming

The ProJo mentioned retiring Congressman Patrick Kennedy's plans to write a book in a piece this past weekend. Some detail from the New York Times:

Patrick J. Kennedy, a member of Congress and son of Senator Edward M. Kennedy, will detail his struggles with alcoholism, drug addiction and depression in a memoir to be released in the fall of 2011, the publisher said on Tuesday. Mr. Kennedy, 43, wrote the book with Mary Ann Akers, a former gossip columnist for The Washington Post and Roll Call.

Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, the publisher that bought North American rights to the memoir, “Coming Clean,” said Mr. Kennedy’s book is “the first truly revealing, intimate portrait of growing up a Kennedy, and coming clean about his own inner demons, as part of a major effort to destigmatize all diseases of the mind.” Mr. Kennedy, Democrat of Rhode Island, is not seeking re-election this year for the House seat that he has held since 1995.

“I realize that I have an enormous opportunity to turn my biggest liability — my illness, which includes addiction — into an asset to help countless numbers of Americans who quietly suffer and cannot afford treatment or risk telling their employers,” Mr. Kennedy said in a statement. “That’s why I’m writing this book.”
