Adams to Retire

In case you missed it, a household name announced Friday that she will retire. From the AP:

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Longtime Rhode Island broadcaster Karen Adams says she's retiring at the end of the year after 22 years at the anchor desk.

Adams, the evening anchor at WPRI-TV Channel 12, announced her decision Friday.

The 55-year-old broadcaster says she wants to travel with her husband, play golf and continue to work with charitable causes when she retires.

She said they also will spend time at their second home in North Carolina.

Adams is a Missouri native who started her television journalism career in 1976 and has anchored WPRI's evening news broadcasts since 1989.

Her last broadcast will be Dec. 30. The station says it will launch a nationwide search for a replacement.
