At the ProJo: Analyze This

And the ProJo continues to evolve before our eyes. On the front page today: a piece labeled "analysis" by State House reporter Steve Peoples that suggests Governor Carcieri left himself little option but to propose steep cuts to cities and towns by foreclosing other budget-cutting possibilities - layoffs and social-service cuts - with earlier fiscal moves.

The ProJo, beset by falling circulation and increased competition on the web, must provide this sort of depth and analysis if it is to differentiate itself and have a shot at long-term success. Indeed, the paper is years behind other broadsheets and magazines that have moved in this direction.
