Hummel Adds Cartoonist to Site
This just in from Jim Hummel, the former ABC6 investigative reporter who has launched a non-profit, TV-on-the-web project:
PROVIDENCE - The Hummel Report is pleased to announce that it will be publishing the cartoons of noted local artist Charlie Hall on www.hummelreport.com.
"Charlie's creative genius is a great addition to the Hummel Report. His light touch is perfect match for my hard-hitting style," said Jim Hummel, investigative reporter and Executive Director of the Hummel Report. "His humorous take on the scandals, follies, and foibles of public figures will provide welcome comic-relief from the often depressing state of public affairs in Rhode Island."
The Hummel Report is a Web site that features weekly exclusive investigations into waste and corruption in government by former ABC 6 news reporter Jim Hummel. Reports are posted online at www.hummelreport.com and broadcast over AM 630 & FM 99.7 WPRO every Thursday. The Hummel Report also is partnered with the Ocean State Policy Research Institute (OSPRI), which provides access to databases on government records.
Charlie Hall is an editorial cartoonist, the creative force behind Ocean State Follies, producer of the RI Comedy Festival, and a co-creator and host of Rhode Bytes, a LOL, local PM magazine type show appearing on NBC 10 and its Web site. His cartoons are published in all area newspapers and appeared in the 2005 and 2008 editions of Best Editorial Cartoons of the Year. He has also published several books of his cartoons, including HOT SKETCH and HOT SKETCH 2: The Independent Funnyman.
"What a perfect marriage of mavericks: Jim Hummel and Charlie Hall," said Charlie Hall. "One has been hilariously picking on the goings-on of the state in a clever, artistic, sarcastic, and biting way for years-establishing himself as a local icon. The other one is Charlie Hall."
"We've been fans of each other for years-and friends," Hall added. "Plus his stories I'm sure will inspire many cartoons-just like his reporting did when he was at Channel 6."
