Longtime Channel 10 meteorologist Gar Ley, laid off in the Spring, is back. From the ProJo:
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Channel 10, WJAR-TV, has announced the return of longtime meteorologist Gary Ley, who was laid off in March and will now return to NBC 10 to forecast the weather on "Weekend Sunrise."
The local station has announced the return of live news and weather on Saturday and Sunday mornings, beginning this weekend with the "Weekend Sunrise" show to be anchored by Mario Hilario and with weather by Gary Ley.
News of Ley's layoff in March drew criticism of the decision from fans of the weatherman. He was with the station for 24 years. Reader comments streamed in when The Providence Journal wrote about the layoff, both on its business blog and in the newspaper.
The station gave Ley time at the end of his last newscast -- on March 30 -- to thank the management, his co-workers and viewers.
"I feel like we all grew up together," he said to his colleagues on the anchor desk, whom he thanked "for keeping me out of trouble."
