Sullivan Arrested on Drunk Driving Charge

The ProJo reports that Deputy Majority Leader Raymond J. Sullivan, Jr., best known for heading up Barack Obama's Rhode Island general election campaign, was arrested on drunk driving charges early this morning.

NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. -- State police said Wednesday that they have charged Rep. Raymond J. Sullivan Jr., D-Coventry, with driving while under the influence of alcohol.

The police said that Sullivan, who is deputy majority leader in the state House of Representatives, was arrested at 1:15 a.m. Wednesday, but did not say where. Sullivan also was Rhode Island campaign manager for Barack Obama in last year's election.

The police said a chemical breath test showed that Sullivan's blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit.

Sullivan, who was first elected in 2004, was released pending a court appearance, the police said.
