Customer service reps reportedly cut at ProJo

A number of customer service representatives have reportedly been laid off at the Providence Journal.

One source believes the number of axed workers to be as high as 22. Tim Schick, administrator of the Providence Newspaper Guild, says he has heard talk of the cuts, but he doesn't know how many employees are affected. The workers are not covered by a union, he says.

Regarding the displaced employees -- said to be part of the ProJo's in-house circulation department, Schick notes that many newspapers are contracting out such functions.
