Fierro steps up House campaign from Woonsocket
Matt has the details on some early 2008 legislative action from nothern Rhode Island:

Thankfully we have a great progressive who is running for the District 51 House seat in Woonsocket left vacant by Rep. Roger Picard's recent ascension to the Senate.
Chris Fierro will be having a candidate "meet and greet" this Wednesday, April 9 from 630pm to 830pm at the Embassy Restaurant (77 Havelock St. in Woonsocket). This is not a campaign fundraiser, but if you want to get a head start in helping out the Fierro campaign, checks are payable to "Friends of Chris Fierro."
Here is a portion of the letter that Fierro sent out inviting people to the Meet and Greet:
It has been a politically tumultuous few months here in Woonsocket, between the passing of Senator Roger Badeau, the resignation of the Mayor and Chief of Police, the results of the city’s audit, and the special election to fill the vacant Senate 20 seat. This political time of unrest, along with the budget crisis facing our state, has forced me to think long and hard about the future of our great City and State. I am running for State Representative to bring change to the State House, to fix the problems affecting our state and to restore trustworthiness in our state government.
I strongly believe that the office of State Representative is the closest semblance to direct democracy available under our state’s government. It is due to this strong belief that I seek to put my neighbors in the driver’s seat of my campaign. Your support and input now will ensure that your priorities for District 51 will become my priorities; now, throughout my campaign, and upon my election.
Please consider dropping in at my event on April 9th to discuss the future of RI, our city, and our neighborhood. Together, we can clean up the mess on Smith Hill and bring the change we need to Woonsocket.
