Together at last: Sundlun and Almond
Former governors Bruce Sundlun and Lincoln Almond will be the special guests during Common Cause of Rhode Island's annual dinner, tomorrow night at the Crowne Plaza at the Crossings in Warwick.
One wonders if they'll wade into assessing the performance of the incumbent.
(During an appearance Sunday on 10 News Conference, Lisa Pelosi, who served as Almond's communications director, asserted that Governor Carcieri ran on a platform of how he would bring everyone together. Funny, N4N seems to recall that as a candidate, Carcieri very much set himself against the General Assembly. Anyway, Pelosi asserted that Carcieri hasn't continued to bring people together.)
Here's how Common Cause executive director Christine Lopes blurbs tomorrow's event:
Sundlun, who now teaches at the University of Rhode Island, and Almond, who recently led the successful effort to defeat attempts to bring a destination casino to Rhode Island, will draw on their years in state politics and their experiences as governor to illuminate the problems Rhode Island faces today and perhaps offer some suggestions.
The appearance by the two governors will highlight the dinner, which will take place at Crowne Plaza at the Crossings, 801 Greenwich Ave, Warwick, at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 7. The annual business meeting of Common Cause, at which a new governing board and officers will be elected, will start at 4:30 p.m. at the hotel. Cocktails will be available at 5:30 p.m. Dinner and Program will begin at 6:00 p.m.
