Correction: Patriot Ledger still on Beacon Hill
Last week, I reported that a round of job cuts at GateHouse Media would include the shuttering of the Patriot Ledger's State House bureau.
Apparently that's not the case. I've now been told, by a source who should know, that the Ledger's State House bureau will stay open. It just won't be staffed by Tom Benner, who's no longer a GateHouse employee. Instead, GA reporter John Kelly will be covering Beacon Hill on an interim but full-time basis.
For the record, I wrote my initial post after A) receiving what seemed like an eminently reliable report; B) unsuccessfully seeking comment from Benner; C) contacting Patriot Ledger managing editor Terry Ryan, who told me I needed to speak with GateHouse New England head Rick Daniels; and D) leaving a message for Daniels that was never returned.
All that said, I apologize for passing on what was apparently bad information.
