Health-care reform at last!

The Phoenix's editorial this week discusses the passage of health-care reform. At the end, it makes observations about various Massachusetts politicians. To that, I add: Maine Republican senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, who opposed the bill, receive large contributions from the health-care industry, according to OpenSecrets.org.

Here are the breakdowns:

Snowe: Health professionals and insurance companies are the second- and third-biggest sectors donating to her (after retired people).

Collins: Heath professionals are the fifth-largest sector for donors, and insurance companies are eighth.

And for completeness, here are the breakdowns for Maine's Democratic members of the House, who both supported the bill:

Chellie Pingree: Health professionals are the six-largest donor sector; finance/insurance/real-estate interests are the largest overall donor group.

Mike Michaud: Health professionals are his top donors, but combined labor interests (which supported the reform package) give even more.
