Wait - now SNOWE is the defender of health-care affordability?

The Associated Press reported late Friday that Senator Olympia Snowe still wants to be involved in crafting health-care reform in Congress.

In part, she's objecting to the process, which has largely not involved Republicans, many of whom have called Obama's plan akin to "socialism" (though they have conveniently forgotten that term is exactly what their beloved Medicare is).

But there's also this line, late in the story: "Among her biggest concerns is the bill's lack of guarantees of health insurance affordability, which she believes should be a cornerstone of any reform."

This is, we recall, Olympia Snowe, who killed the public option, and who wanted to let insurance companies have some time to change their ways.

I mean, it's great that she's coming around, but isn't it a tad late...?
