Wizards for gay marriage!
The Harry Potter Alliance, "a global organization dedicated to bringing the themes of Harry Potter into the real world," is organizing wizard-loving activists in favor of gay marriage in Maine.
This Saturday morning (October 24), the HPA will bring Harry and the Potters and Draco and the Malfoys (I have no idea what these things mean but I bet lots of you do) to the North Star Cafe for a morning concert that starts at 10:30 a.m. Following the concert, attendees will get a quick training on how to canvass; then an estimated 100 marriage supporters will work their magic (yes! I got that in there!) going door-to-door from noon to 5 p.m. The whole group will reconvene for more music and a dance party at the North Star at 5 p.m.
"To add to the urgency of this hyper-day of organizing, the entire event will be constructed as a one day House Cup Competition," according to Andrew Slack of the HP Alliance. Organizers are "creating a feature in their phone banking system that will allow HPA
participants to register with the Hogwarts House they most identify with; for
every phone call they make, this system will automatically award points to their
House. Just as Hogwarts has a Head of House, this "magical day of activism"
has none other than Evanna Lynch, who plays Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter
films, as the Head of Ravenclaw House."
Okay, now I'm really lost. All I know is that if magic wands could resolve this issue, a lot of people would be a lot less nervous about November 3.
