Protesters were not hitting the police to spark the violent actions that the police took. My friend, a female war hero, was grabbed by the throat and flung to the ground. Then shoved into a van and moved from places to place all night not being told where they were taking her. They moved her around all night, and denied her right to see a lawyer before they shoved her into a court room. The whole time she had no shoes and cuts on her feet from being thrown around. Police aren't telling anyone about that are they.

as a member of the medical team i want to point out one qualm with the article, in that none of the groups, teams, committees, what have you, have leaders or "heads" and the woman you spoke to is a new friend and colleague of mine, and i love that you pointed out that she was a doctoral student at hopkins, she is not our "leader." otherwise: great reporting!

To follow up on the anarchists - on Saturday night they were rushing the police who had been called on another matter. I was pouring soup at a table right there and I yelled at them to de-escalate. The crowd then turned on me and I had (male) anarchists piled up at the table at least three rows thick and some came on the sides - thus blocking me in. They screamed at me - the usual barrage of foul language emanating from foul folks. When another man finally stopped them they dispersed, but not until leaving a few threatening words. When I confronted the leader of this pack of surly dogs(also a security guard?!) he could not even comprehend that their act of violence against me was not ok. members of the larger group apologized but nothing was actually done about it. So - I need the chill police to protect me from the crazed, need confrontation members of the group? OB is not a safe space for anyone as long as this behavior is condoned.
