The above extreme-stage-right video of Phoenix pretty much perfectly encapsulates Monday's show: loud and dramatic and heavily favoring tracks off Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. Based on my shaky recollection, they played every track off their yesteryear breakout, a handful of choice cuts from previous efforts (including "Rally" and "Everything Is Everything"), and an encore where they emerged on top of the soundboard, midfloor, to kickdown a mini acoustic set before returning to the stage to run through the requisite "1901" closer.

If you blinked you might have missed it — French rock band Phoenix went from toiling in relative obscurity for essentially all of the 2000s to becoming Grammy-winning, arena-playing, can’t-get-that-song-out-of-your-dome (and-that’s-still-rad-even-though-you’ve-heard-it-a-gazillion-times) torch-bearers of all things top-shelf indie, circa 2010.

Gorillaz got it right last night. With my only prior conception of their live show being a couple of reports from early summer festival stops and an appearance at the 2006 Grammy's, I was rather trepidacious heading into their Agganis tour stop. Sure, the performance with Madonna was cool at the time. But with a movie being released next week where Steve-O will undoubtedly get kicked in the balls in 3-D, technological wonderment doesn't pack nearly the same punch as it did four years ago.

Pavement announced their reunion about a year ago and revealed this Boston date about six months ago. In the time between those announcements, it seemed like people went from being super-jazzed about the prospect of Pavement playing live shows again to seeming a little lukewarm on the whole thing.

If you're going to pony up the cash to see Gorillaz do their multi-media animation-meets-real-life thing on the big screen, perhaps there's no bigger screen around the city than the one at Agganis Arena. So while we're not sure if Damon Albarn and his crew of cartoons are arena-level big, it's still pretty cool that they're playing places like O2 in London and Toronto's Air Canada Centre.

Pavement, beloved indie rock band and fantasy sports enthusiasts, have reunited after about ten years or so. Now, as expected, they've begun announcing US dates that don't involve festivals or the Central Park Summer Stage (via Pitchfork). And these dates, unsurprisingly, will bring them here to Boston for a September 18th show at the Agganis Arena (which is kind of crazy when you think about it, but I guess that's the these things go).

WEEZER's scheduled performance tonight at Boston's Agganis Arena is "not happening," according to a LiveNation press release. No further details were immediately available about refunds or a rescheduled date; it appears the band has cancelled all of its December dates. (Update: the show has been officially "postponed," but no replacement date has been announced; refunds are available at point of purchase.
