    1. No, the hip-hop bloggerazzi ain't the only ones who obsess over sneakers. But after seeing Slayer's signature "old-skool" Vans, can you see why metal kids are considerably less flossy?

    2. Matthew Fluxblog waxes positive, mostly, on Allston homie Andrew Bujalski's minor-key indie-film/indie-rock masterpiece Funny Ha Ha

Since we neglected to mention it last week, Vol. 2 of Phoenix download column is up right over here: Avenged Sevenfold, mp3 version of the Tsar track we had y'all streaming a couple weeks back, Turbonegro rewind for all our Scandinavian inky-fingered thugs, plus Unseen and rehash of the inaugural Crash and Burn post, 'cause Bill dropped by and reminded us how hot that album is.

    Heads up.

Blog shift is up in Steel City this weekend, scouting draft picks and childrens museums. Saturday afternoon, the Overdraught gets Frenchy punk goodness, with local stupor. Or local support. Something like that.

From France, the Fatals were born Toulouse: grainy distorto in-the-red madness.

Here, fishy fishy fishy. . .

    TONIGHT:
Mastodon, Crystal Method, Cary Brothers, DAT Politics & Hrvatski

Fuuuuuck, dude. FUUUUUUUCK! (Sorry: when it comes to Mastodon, OTD reverts linguistically to first-period 10th grade smoke-out on the South Lawn, getting thowed on cheeba shotguns, SoCo shots, and mandatory recitations of South of Heaven lyrics.

Yep, that’s Spitz and Lemon Red last Friday at the Enormous Room for the Certified Bananas/Catchdubs throwdown. As you can see here and here and here, the Central Square par-tay was an all-stah bloggah affair. The mix coming off the decks was hot, but we specially liked that Joanna Newsom dap from last January

Dunno where Camille's post is at -- OTD thinks she's holding a photo of Spitz and Lemon-Red for ransom (n.h., obv.) -- but expect her to post hazy recollections and fuzzy photos from Friday night's Certified Bananas madness sometime soon. The Phoenix doesn't usually roll deep like that unless Sleater-Kinney's in town, but with Weezer luring our new pal Nick Sylvester back up to his old stomping ground for the weekend, it felt like we were getting all Boston After Dark or something up in there.

Lenny & the Piss Poor Boys photo by Camille

The Abbey Lounge isn’t really our scene, but a Somervillian undertow must've been in full effect on Saturday, pulling us there to chill with the Schlitz cans, Noise caricatures, and half-nude vixen drawings. The event was “Very Bad Girls: The Art of Jordan Valentine,” an opening art reception of rock-poster illustrations drawn by a wigged-out chorus-girl for the flamboyant Hairspray-style choir Valhalla Kittens

The Charms have been all up in Little Stevie's house, but are they turning into MTV sell-outs? Nah, and to prove it, these sexy, sleighbell-ringing garage-rockers (not to mention Best Music Poll nominees) returned to their Rock City roots on Saturday to shoot scenes for their upcoming video for "Gimme That Shot," off of their new album Pussycat released just last week.

    1. If you were standing outside Great Scott on Friday around 2 a.m., you'd have seen a veritable hug-fest between the members of soon-to-be-defunct post-punk Honeypump darlings Clickers; they'd just played an emotional set, also one of their last. The band left fans slack-jawed last week with the announcement of its impending break-up (a final all ages show is TBA in June) just hours after the listening party for their debut 12-inch split with Best Music Poll nominees Night Rally

    1. Bullets, schmullets: is the Game a wuss? First, that crude My Little Pony butterfly facial tat, now we hear Jayceon's a dutched-out crybaby. “Amsterdam is like weed heaven,” Taylor reports to High Times after his first visit to Stonersville. “I almost cried when we had to leave-- I was looking out the bus window and waving goodbye like in one of those movies.

    1. John Cena SO REAL! Like remember Hov said about his feud with Nas -- it's pro wrestling. So the WWE's all what? What? Somebody's roughin' up our turf? Get us a wrestling rapper! Get us a white wrestling rapper! Get us a white wrestling rapper from Boston! (Eyes rollin' all up in the Escalades, right? So, um, what the hell is white-wrestling-rapper-from-Boston John Cena doing in a Murs video? For serious, did Jamn's Ramiro and Pebbles really co-sign on this? And can anyone confirm that 7L did some of the production work?)
