According to reports tonight, Gerry Leone will not run for re-election as Middlesex County District Attorney in 2014. Leone has been DA since 2006, and I've always gotten the feeling from people that he might be the first person in a while to not use that office as a springboard to statewide office. And so it seems to be, at least if the initial reports are correct that he intends to leave politics.
It's a plum opening; the DA of the most populous (and wealthiest) county. Expect quite a few people to consider running for it, although only a few will ultimately launch a campaign.
I've got a few possibilities in mind -- both current officeholders and not -- but I'm going to hold off for the moment trying to list any.
