There are a slew of polls out this week (actually there are a slew of polls out every week) but if you look at the GOP race, you notice a couple of things. Fred Thompson got off to a good start (better than he deserved); John McCain has checked his slide and is moving up a bit, and Mitt Romney has begun to dip.
His lead is shrinking in NH according to two polls. And he's still nowhere in the national polls.
In the long run, it's the Romney movement that may be the most significant. Yes, there's a good argument that if he wins Iowa -- and he's still way ahead there -- it will be hard for him to lose NH. But Iowa voters don't want to waste their vote and if Romney is still way back in the national polls come December and, statistically tied with others in NH, his lead may begin to erode in the Hawkeye State as well. It's worth keeping an eye on.
