Organized Labor Gathers With Edwards Needing the Endorsement
As this article in the
Wall Street Journal details,
the AFL-CIO meets tonight in Chicago, where the Democratic candidates
will address them in yet another debate-forum, with each hoping for an
endorsement. For John Edwards, it's key. He's made a strong effort to
court organized labor and without its push behind him, it will be hard
for him to stay competitive with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.
The betting is that the AFL-CIO leadership, in fact, will endorse no
one, until it's clear who the eventual nominee will be. But it will be
interesting to see how the candidates are received.
