Ads Classified: Dodd Returns to the Air In an Attempt to Get Something Going
Back with a
third ad similar to his first two, Chris Dodd is on the air in Iowa and New Hampshire touting his global warming credentials. In the ad, feauring Dodd with schoolchildren in a classroom, the narrator stresses how Dodd is taking the lead in calling for a carbon tax and includes warm words for Dodd's efforts (in text) from Al Gore and Bill Bradley.
Dodd is trying to do something similar to what Mitt Romney has accomplished on the GOP side: He's trying to buy enough early ads to hike his name recognition -- and his poll numbers -- in the first two states. There's one key difference, however: Romney has loads more cash and faces a weaker field in those first two states.
It's doubtful these ads will make a difference. Dodd deserves a hearing but in a field crowded with heavyweights, he's unlikely to get it.
