An Honest Answer from Tommy Thompson -- But Probably Not What Voters Are Looking For

    Tommy Thompson committed a gaffe of sorts in the May 3 debate at the Reagan Library when he appeared to favor discrimination against gays in employment -- which he claims is not his position.
    Thompson was recovering from the flu that night, so we have some sympathy. But we're not sure if his later clarification as to why he answered the question incorrectly helps his candidacy. Thompson said his hearing aid had gone dead and that he also had to go to the bathroom.
    An honest answer? Undoubtedly. Presidential? Hmm --.
    Good luck to Thompson in tomorrow night's second debate, when he'll undoubtedly face some unusual scrutiny.
