A number of people have written the Tote Board, asking that the column devote less space to the horse race and more to the issues. It's a noble thought but this column, alas, is designed to deal with the horse race on the theory that while the press generally does pay way too much attention to who's up and who's down, it rarely does so very intelligently.
Fortunately for readers more interested in issue coverage, there are several web sites that deal with the issues well and most are posted on the right side of this page in the links category. Briefly, the
Campaign on YouTube features videos galore of the candidates themselves, explaining themselves. Gary Stark (no relation) has set up a website,
www.expertvoter.org, that compares the candidates' positions on the issues. And, C-Span has a weekly program, "Road to the White House," which takes the viewer (or listener) on the campaign trail with various candidates. Fortunately, C-Span now makes this program available as a podcast and it can be accessed at
http://www.c-span.org/podcast/ .
Please feel free to suggest other sites and we'll try to post them on the blog as well.
