A Blast from the Past

    On April 16, 1995, the Washington Post featured a story with this headline: "Gramm Outspends Next Two Competitors Combined." The story went on to detail how Senator Phil Gramm had also outraised his closest opponent, Senator Robert Dole, by 2-1, thereby setting new fundraising records.
    As we all know, this was this beginning of the Gramm juggernaut that swept aside all his rivals and led to the Gramm presidency about which historians still talk.
