Handmade Holiday Guide 2010: Bazaar Bizarre | December 5, noon-7pm

Are your friends sick of getting Christmas-themed scratchoffs? Is the Whitman's Sampler just not cutting it this year? Fear not! There are scads of craft fairs coming up in the next week to keep your list in handmade bounty from now unto death. We know that rows of one-of-a-kind artisinal artifacts can feel overwhelming. and so we asked the organizers of each fair for their favorite vendors.

In each case, it was very hard for them to narrow it down. Hard for us, too -- there are so many great craft fairs that we couldn't fit them all in one place. Today, we present the first installment of our guide to this year's holiday craft fairs. Stay tuned for more.

BAZAAR BIZARRE | Sunday, December 5 | noon-7pm | BCA Cyclorama, 539 Tremont Street, Boston | $1 |

 BB Venue

The grand dame of Boston indie craft fairs returns for its tenth year. Get thee to the Cyclorama early – it gets full, and fast. And for good reason: Bazaar Bizarre is one of the most well-respected fairs in the country, with spinoffs in San Francisco, L.A. and Cleveland. “It’s a labor of love,” says Bazaar Bizarre organizer Alison Gordon. Since the recent explosion of the craft scene, the bazaar has been deluged with applicants from all over. But they try to keep it local: three-quarters of the vendors are from New England.
