Al Kaprielian is pink slipped

In what I’ve heard described as “the worst weather-related news since Hurricane Katrina,” much-beloved MyTV meteorologist Al Kaprielian — the “kult” of whom was explored in the pages of the Phoenix last winter — has been laid off after 26 years of exuberant, helium-voiced weather reports.

His last forecast will be on December 31. Rain, hail, sleet, or snow, you can bet he’ll be excited about it.

As if we needed any confirmation: there is no justice in this world.

But Al, diminutive in height though he may be, is a fighter. He’s not about to take this lying down. Reports the Herald: “Kaprielian said he’d love to break into the Boston TV market. ‘Boston’s not an easy place to get into. I wouldn’t mind it someday. We’ll see what happens.’”

We wish him the best of luck. Truly. And we mourn that yet another inimitable New England institution has fallen victim to this economy.

And right before Christmas. It’s probably too late, but we can try. Save Al Kaprielian’s Job!

Barring that, we can only hope — as certainly seems possible — that Al can rally the wind and lightning and swirling storms to wreak his revenge.

Say it with me loud and proud: High Presha!
