Obama continues on health-care reform crusade

Many presidents and statesmen before him have tried and failed to overhaul the shame that is America's health-care system, but Obama is on the right track and continues to plug away at reform. Earlier today, he spoke in front of nearly 2,000 members of the American Medical Association in Chicago and received a number of applause for his remarks.

Watch the speech:

Some statistics:

In 2006, 14.8 percent of Americans, or 43.6 million, were without health insurance, according to the CDC.

The number of uninsured children increased from 8 million (10.9 percent) in 2005 to 8.7 million (11.7 percent) in 2006, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

According to the CDC, over 50 percent of those uninsured said the high cost of health insurance was the reason for remaining uninsured.

According to Obama's health-care reform Web site, the U.S. spends over $2 trillion a year on health care (statistic taken from this report)
