See this [free] film: Tales of the Waria at the Fong Auditorium @ Harvard
Despite
preconceptions about Islamic countries, some people might be surprised to learn
that Iran, for example, as
demonstrated by the Oscar-winning film A
Separation, makes films with female characters who are more independent and
less stereotyped than in many Hollywood
movies. And as Kathy Huang's film, Tales Of The Waria, demonstrates,
the title community of transgender women thrives with little fear of repression
in Indonesia,
the country with the largest Muslim population in the world. Huang will be on
hand to discuss the film, which screens at the Fong Auditorium, 110 Boylston
Hall at Harvard University, Harvard Yard, Cambridge | Thursday, April 5 @ 7 pm | free | 617.669.1522 or thewaria.com.
