See these films: To Be Heard + Gremlins at the Brattle
To Be Heard (2010)
One the liveliest and most important film series in
these parts, the Doc Yard Presents returns with Amy Sultan, Roland
Legiardi-Laura, Edwin Martinez, and Deborah Shaffer's To Be Heard (2010; 7 pm), a real-life Precious in
which three South Bronx teenage girls expand
their lives and minds through poetry. The directors Martinez and Sultan and two
of the subjects will attend. Also at the Brattle, for those looking instead for
comedy and fantasy, is Joe Dante's Gremlins
(1984; 10 pm), in which the title imps act up and end up in a Cuisinart for
their trouble. The Brattle is at 40 Brattle St, Cambridge | Monday June 6 @ 7 pm + 10 pm | $10; $8 students,
seniors | 617.876.6837 or brattefilm.org.
