Quicksand reunion comes to the Paradise
Ever since being the "special guest" band on the final night of Revelation Records' 25th anniversary celebration back in June, we've sat patiently here in Boston and watched a couple of additional QUICKSAND reunion gigs pop in California and New York. Now there's a full-on tour, and the New York post-hardcore dudes (Walter Schreifels, Tom Capone, Alan Cage, and Sergio Vega) finally come to Boston, hitting the Paradise on January 7. It's an all-ages show and the $27.50 tickets go on sale this Friday at noon.
After forming in 1990, the band released its debut EP on Revelation before dropping two hugely-influential major-label full lengths, 1993's Slip off Polydor, and 1995's Manic Compression off Island. Their appearance together at the Revelation shows was their first time on stage together since they disbanded in 1999, and closed their set with a cover of the Smiths' "How Soon Is Now," which was a b-side on their 1993 single, "Dine Alone."
With that track, as well as "Fazer" and "Omission," I'm sure Slip is the Quicksand album of choice amongst fans, but one day as a teenager working at a Sam Goody on Long Island, my assistant manager made me a cassette copy of Manic, and I pretty much played it nonstop for weeks, especially the songs "Landmine Spring" and "Thorn In My Side." I haven't seen any of the other reunion gig set-lists, but hopefully those jams get dusted off at the 'Dise in January.
