When this fetid corpse of a year finally shits the bed and we all are obligated to file our Year-end Best-of lists, there's little doubt ICKY BLOSSOMS "Heat Lightning" will be on my Top Whatever Songs 2012. Probably in the Top 5. Maybe 3. Possibly in the top spot, once I figure out how sick I am next month of Icona Pop's "I Love It" and if I learn that Slove's "Flash" got a domestic release date this year after dropping in Europe last October.
Anyway, "Heat Lightning" is an infectious dance track we first heard back over the summer, when we tabbed the Saddle Creek band out of Omaha as our Nebraska pick in 50 Bands 50 States, and now we've got it in heavy rotation on WFNX.com, adding a bit of sparkle to the daily playlist. Seriously, it's quite the sexy synth jam, mixing elements of throbbong electro-pop with a very slick new wave flair.
Now the Blossoms, who hit Boston for one dance-ur-fuck-off bill with the Faint and TRUST December 8 at the Paradise -- same night as Marina & the Diamonds and Icona Pop at the House of Blues, oh well -- have released a music video for "Heat Lightning," which was premiered by Rolling Stone today. It's as rad as the song, a trippy-ass clip that blends performance footage with animation and other chroma key effects, giving us a bit of an a-ha vibe and nice contract between the flashes of color and its black/white background.
Probably gonna smoke a gorilla finger and watching this a billion times tonight.
