[staff spinz] Savages, "Husbands"

From this week's print edition of the Phoenix, Staff Spinz highlights what we're playing these days in our newsroom...

SAVAGES “Husbands” [Pop Noire] Halloween is the perfect time for this black-lit London quartet (buzzing sharply after five CMJ shows) to carve a bloody niche in the wrist of post-punk. This studio recording of “Husbands,” first released back in May, finds singer Jehnny Beth’s whisper/scream Siouxsie* yelp dancing in the belfry over Ayse Hassan’s atmospheric graveyard bass. The track was also included in a new live EP release, I Am Here, last month. Evil-pop, indeed.
