[artist spotlight] the Static Jacks, tonight @ Lansdowne Pub, WFNX re-launch party

And here we thought the only thing good to happen in New Jersey in 2009 was the Devils drafting Josef Josefson? Turns out a little rock and roll band from Westfield broke out of the 'burbs and launched a guitar-pronged attack on the increasingly stale New York City scene. THE STATIC JACKS' self-released Laces EP was a breath of fresh air, and eventual tours with the likes of the Futureheads, We Were Promised Jetpacks, and Young The Giant helped bring the band to a national audience. Last year's If You're Young record off Fearless Records showed even greater evolution, and standout tracks like "Mercy, Hallelujah" and single "Into The Sun" showed the band sonically smarter and more diverse -- incorporating strains of soul, pop, and even new wave -- than their metro-area garage rock brethren.

Tonight they help kickstart our official WFNX relaunch series at the Lansdowne Pub, a free show across from Fenway Park that also features kindred rock spirits CAMDEN and the DJ stylings of LIZ PELLY. RSVP now to get on the list, and party with us tonight as we raise a glass to Jersey's greatest homegrown hope since Bobby Ryan.
