MEAN CREEK'S upcoming full-length album Youth Companion is one of the more anticipated records coming out of Boston this fall, but we still have a few weeks before the release party (October 11 at Brighton Music Hall in Allston) and official drop date (October 16 off Old Flame Records). So in the meantime, the day after the 'Creek announced another coast-to-coast tour with the Counting Crows to round out 2012, frontman and guitarist CHRIS KEENE offered up this collection of stripped-down solo compositions to hold us over.
Unconscious Twin is the first solo acoustic material Keene has recorded in nearly a decade, and without Mean Creek's usual guitar fury, his already-powerful voice is allowed additional room to fill the gaps (we think we're getting some extra falsetto than your average Creek jam, as well). The EP was "produced, recorded, engineered, mastered, and ...well, let’s be honest, this album wouldn’t exist or be at all listenable without the insanely talented Chris McLaughlin @ 1867 Recording Studio," Keene posted to his Bandcamp.
Keeping it all in the family, the album's artwork was done by Keene's Mean Creek bandmate Aurore Ounjian, who he thanks in the credits as his "conscious twin." Download the EP for free, or kick him some coin for his once-again sterling efforts.
