The time has arrived. The last day of human programming on WFNX arrives next week – Saturday, July 21, to be precise – so that means there’s one last Sunday on the schedule before the sale to Clear Channel goes into high-gear and the station begins its transition to a web stream.
Of course, that means there’s one last BOSTON ACCENTS on the FM dial before we vacate our longtime home of 101.7. Originally, we planned a sleepover party, but host Jim Ryan and Intern Renee have recently been holding down mornings, so we’re changing our approach ever so slightly into an all-nighter send-off.
We’ll fire the show up around 8 pm, and go as deep into the night as we can stand, no doubt drunk on 5-Hour Energy Boost and endless cans of Red Bull, decked out in Boston Accents snuggies promised by the guys in RIBS.
We’ll play as much of the Boston Accents library as we can, a mix of new and old jams, hopefully taking us to 6 am -- 10-hour party people? -- when the morning show takes over. It’ll be one odd crossover, that’s for sure. Then again, maybe we’ll get bored pull the plug at 2 am and hit the Wendy's on 1A before it closes, who knows.
In any event, it’s bound to be a party, and a fitting farewell to the show on the FM dial with a bunch of friends, fans, and bands hanging out up in the Lynn studio. Someone will shed a tear.
WFNX will live on online in some capacity, and we’re sure there’ll be a streaming home for some sort of local music show, whether it be a podcast or something a bit more active from our new Phoenix newsroom in Brighton this fall. But the Boston Accents as we know and love ends this weekend, and afterwards we'll pour out one final note in a live environment at the three-night Funeral Party at Great Scott in Allston from July 23 to 25.
Party with us. Believe in Boston.
