If, for whatever reason, you've recently forgotten what city you live in, here's a stark reminder as bright as the pending fireworks ready to light up our beautiful skyline: the DROPKICK MURPHYS will be playing the annual Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular at the DCR Hatch Shell this 4th of July. They’ll be joining the Pops, American Idol’s Jennifer Hudson, and the guy who played The Thing in the Fantastic Four movies in soundtracking your post-BBQ day-drinking marathon, right around the time you may or may not be passing out from a 10-hour session of chugging Natty Ice on a dank Allston patio.
It’ll be pretty hard to live up to last year’s featured artist, the frozen-in-time Mr. Lionel Richie, but we’re sure that the Murphys will prove that this city’s foundations rest on street punk, alcohol, and puritanism. It's free, of course, so grab a bucket of KFC and head down to the Esplanade around 8:20 pm (or earlier, we don't care). For those of you who can't go, the show will be broadcast at 8 pm on WBZ-TV, and a livestream can be found at CBS’ website.
And hey, no matter how rowdy things can get, don't ever throw anything at a group of armed officers, especially if your name sounds like "Crispus Attucks." We don't need a repeat of one of our other founding events on the goddamn anniversary of our independance.
