[chill vibes] Grand Resort sign to DiscAu, debut album out in September

So we've been keeping tabs on the breezy, summery sounds of GRAND RESORT ever since we first posted glistening debut single "Microscopic" in February. Since then we've witnessed 20-year-old Andres M. Pichardo's efforts evolve from a solo guitar/laptop project based out of his old Brookline apartment to a full-on four-piece Brooklyn-based band that's now signed a record deal with Detroit-based indie label DiscAu. Good on ya, Andres.

Shit, it was only back in April when we wondered, after getting a taste of second single "Night Is Dark" and a secret preview of Grand Resort's full-length Vanguard Dreams, why a proper label deal was alluding the recent New England Institute of Art graduate. Now we fret no more.

Though Pichardo recorded the eight-track Vanguard Dreams record here in Boston while in school last fall, the finished product was mastered in New York by Josh Bonati, whose previous work includes The Men, Widowspeak, Zola Jesus. The album takes Pichardo’s childhood love for British jangle pop, C86, and shoegaze, and filters it through a modern dream-pop sound that's loose and blissful but still large and engaging enough to make an impact on ever-changing music circles. “I wanted to develop my ideas as clear as possible, as they did not sound small or vague at all in my head," Pichardo says in a presser from Banter. "Most people don’t believe me when I tell them this is just me in my room with my twelve-string electric guitar."

While we wait for the record's release September 4, a "Night Is Dark" music video and a remix are on the way next month, and another track, the jangly, wistful "Never Ever" will be released as a summer single before the album drops.

As a sort of homecoming -- as much as one can be for a kid originally from Dominican Republic -- Pichardo brings Grand Resort back to Boston for a house show on July 21 at the Haunted Casino in Allston. Ask a tropical punx.

Here's a preview of the tracks Grand Resort have already posted online, including non-album track "Ocean Liner," which was featured on Hearing Gold's May "Vacation Spirit" compilation.
