Three #cool new Tumblr-wave ways to listen to "Call Me Maybe"
"Call Me Maybe" by CARLY RAE JEPSEN is totally the top-40 pop jam of summer 2k12. (It's also currently the number one pop song in America.) If it's already been stuck in your head for a couple of weeks and you're afraid you might get sick of it (or maybe you are starting to get embarassed of how high it is on your Last.fm chart) then you might consider turning to one of these alternate versions instead. All three surfaced on the Internet within the past few days and kind of rule.
1. Rostam Batmanglij of VAMPIRE WEEKEND's mash-up of "Call Me Maybe" with Scottish songwriter Annie Lennox's "Walking on Broken Glass". As Rostam wrote on his SoundCloud, "This one is strictly for lulz." But it actually might be better than the original.
2. The last track of KITTY PRYDE's new EP, "GIVE ME SCABIES" features Kitty alternating between her own verses and singing her rendition of the chorus of "Call Me Maybe". This is really excellent because you get to listen to "Call Me Maybe" and Kitty Pryde at the same time. (Listen to the rest of her new EP too, especially track three, "smiledog.jpg". It includes my new favorite Kitty Pryde lyric: "You say this little white girl's ruining hip-hop / I say damn right and take a lick of the ring pop." You're crushing it BB.)
3. My least favorite of the three but also of note is this mash-up of THIRD EYE BLIND's "Semi Charmed Life" with "Call Me Maybe" that an NYC comedian named Dan Camberlain (a/k/a CHAMBALAND) posted on his Tumblr this week. In case you want to simultaneously listen to this summer's ultimate top-40 pop jam and 1997's ultimate top-40 pop jam.
You're welcome y'all.
