WFNX Local Exposure: the Daily Pravda; free show May 30 @ Hard Rock Cafe

So, what if Saturn actually fell into the sea? We'll find out this month, as Boston's rocket-fed neo-glam heroes THE DAILY PRAVDA carry the torch as May's WFNX Local Exposure band for the month of May. Pravda just released their Dead House EP last weekend with a rousing gig at Radio in Somerville, and now set their sights on a free WFNX-presented show on Wednesday, May 30 at the Hard Rock Cafe.

"Dead House" is a re-boot of their towering 2009 single of the same name, off Pravda's debut full-length Burning Bible Diamonds. In a way, this Local Exposure pick -- selected personally by WFNX program director Paul Driscoll -- re-shines a spotlight on one of Boston's more underrated records of the past few years. Combining elements of everything from Bowie to Radiohead to Hedwig, Burning Bible Diamonds was a blistering modern rock moonshot with a handful of standouts, like the sleek burglar-pop of "Chemical Dancer," the brash morning-squeal of "September," and the melancholic candle-lit escapism closer "Holidays on the Run." And as I've written in the past, secret-weapon Adam Anderson is one of our city's most underrated guitarists.

But over the past few years, "Dead House" remained a personal fave; an ode to lost romance and shit-lover residential imprisonment: "I'm cleaning toilets, mopping restrooms / While you wink your way into a cab / It's more than I can stand" remain some of my favorite lyrics ever.

Taking a break from recording their next album, Columbia, Pravda re-recorded and jazzed up "Dead House," and polished off the lost tracks that never made it on to Burning Bible Diamonds: "Tora Bora," "Ballerina," and "Lincoln Lovers." Those three along with "Dead House" were re-packaged and re-released this month, and the results are fantastical.

And since Pravda's Bowie-worship is no secret -- they've played a handful of Thin White Duke cover sets over the years, at the Pill and elsewhere -- check out their cover of "Moonage Daydream" below.

Here's a live clip of it from a Bowie tribute show out at Ralph's Diner in Worcester from January 2011...
