[new punk] Nice Guys, "Mean Songs" demo, house show Saturday

Local four-piece NICE GUYS play rowdy basement punk that’s noisier and more aggressive than the amiable band name suggests.  Their slimy, who-gives-a-fuck aesthetic sounds equally influenced by classic Bay Area punks and contemporary slackers like FIDLAR and Jeff The Brotherhood.

Apparently they recorded their five-track demo, Mean Songs, during one eight-hour bender. This makes sense, considering it's full of super short, half-baked jams with stoner-friendly titles like “Burrito Boner” and “Pizza Bong.” At just under two minutes, “Mutant Tonsils” is the hit-and-run standout.  It's a quick, distorted thrasher with choppy vocals buried under some surfy guitar sludge. Stream the whole thing via Bandcamp below. It's available to download for 'name your price,' so you might want to donate some loose change.

Dudes have gotta pay for munchies somehow.

Nice Guys are playing a house show this Saturday, May 5, in Allston. Ask around for the address, and keep an eye out for more shows in the coming months — this type of noise is an ideal soundtrack for all your drunken, sweaty summertime regrets.
