It's that time of year again. SXSW is ready to rock and roll, and once again, the Phoenix is all over it. In addition to our latest online tour diaries, detailing Liz Pelly's trek to Texas with Quilt and P. Nick Curran's road escapades in You Can Be A Wesley, we're sending eight writers and photogs to Austin next week to capture everything that happens.
But we're also getting involved with some parties.
Last year we hosted FIRST CONTACT, a SXSW day party in Austin that featured local luminaries Young Adults, Dom, Hooray For Earth, Eugene Mirman, and Girlfriends; as well as touring acts the Good Natured, Funeral Party, and the Seedy Seeds. A good time was had by all.
This year, the Phoenix is throwing its support behind the AUSTIN T PARTY, a collabo effort on March 16 at the Tiniest Bar on 5th Street among two independent Boston-based record labels: Peter Fuimara's Fort Point Recordings, and my very own Vanya Records. The party features live performances by Fort Point's VIVA VIVA and IN LIKE LIONS, and Vanya's THE NEW HIGHWAY HYMNAL and BEARSTRONAUT. This good mixer of garage rock, pop, psych, and dance is free and open to all, features a transitional set from MOE POPE & RAIN, and caps off with a FRESH PRODUCE dance party. So clearly, it's not to be missed.
But hey -- if you're not headed to Austin next week for hipster spring break, fear not: we got the four featured bands playing the kickoff party this evening at the Good Life on Kingston Street for the free Austin T Party launch event.
And keep it locked to On The Download all next week for constant updates, pics, videos, and whatever else our hungover asses get into down in Austin.
SXSWasted Part 2? You bet.
