Boston Accents 03.04.12: Dirty Virgins, Krill, SPF 5000, George Vala, the Clippers, Color Channel, You Won't, the Lemonheads

Tonight’s BOSTON ACCENTS playlist, which is posted mad late and shit because I wanted to race over to Great Scott and witness the Dirty Dishes continue their rise to riches, fame, and glory. The show was split in halfsies, with the rock and roll dropping in Hour 1 -– including a Spring Preview segment and some nasty technical difficulties, apologies -– and the more electronic sounds filling most of the second hour. Until we got distracted by Evan Dando’s birthday oh shit!!!

THE DIRTY VIRGINS “Cheap Talk” – Blasting off with a sweet new jam from the Virgz, who unveiled new EP Tapped Out last Thursday at TT The Bear’s…

THE DIRTY VIRGINS “Crazy High” -- … prompting some to start tossing around the Best Live Band in Boston tag. Good to see our Class of 2012 darlings elevating their game.

THE CLIPPERS “Quiet Confidence” – Super underrated Boston dudes, this from their December 2010 EP An Evening With The Clippers. Catch them at Lorem Ipsum in Cambridge March 23 with Dublin’s Squarehead; a Dreamhouse / Bodies of Water Production. They’re also playing a house show tomorrow night, so ask a punk, dudebro.

KRILL “Slug” – Perry Eaton, co-creator of Allston Pudding and now a music writer at the Phoenix, last week tipped me off to Krill, who have been making some sweet noise in the basement circuit lately. This track is off their I Actually Etc EP, out last year.

THE WRONG SHAPES “Easily Swayed” – So Bo and Rachel of the W-Sha’s played the opening night of the Davis Square Theatre tonight, and we tried to align spinning this track with their live performance. The world still turns, so we clearly fucked up.

TWIN BERLIN “Give Up On Me” – Getting into our Spring Preview set with this garage rock trio that’s our Mp3 of the Week this Thursday in the Phoenix. TB’s new EP, There Goes My Virtue, out Friday with a party at the Hard Rock Café in Boston.

AUTOCHROME “100 Series” – Spring Preview cover boys and girl showing Boston’s spirited post-punk side; debut record Separation Realms will be celebrated March 30 at TT The Bear’s alongside Soccer Mom, Young Adults, and Night Fruit in perhaps the best Boston rock show of the month.

SAND RECKONER “Flesh And Bone” – Philly transplants repping our awesome psych scene; new record out April 5 at O’Brien’s Pub. Gonna grab drinks with these dudes after SXSW for a Phoenix feature and see how they all ended up in Boston.

THE DARKER HUES “Steadfast” – Want to catch the Darker Hues’ record release party at Great Scott on Thursday, March 8? (Not the 9th as my pothead brain first wrote, my bad...) Then tweet @BostonAccentsMA for a chance to win a pair of passes to the show. Thanks to the Hues for the hookup!

FUTURE CARNIVORES “There Is So Much Love In My Heart” – Wrapping up this Spring Preview segment with some more Bo Barringer; the Fu-Carnies climb Tiger Mountain on March 31, the Cambridge Elks Hall the site of their record release.

ORANJULY “The Coldest Summer (2012)” – Songwriter Brian E. King is currently working on new Oranjuly material with a slightly altered direction. But re-boot of their fine track shows off some of the new sonics. Catch Oranjuly this Thursday at TT The Bear’s on a sweet-ass-bill with the Bynars, Animal Talk, and Parlour Bells.

HEX MAP “Living Fossil” – Playing the Middle East on Sunday, March 11 on a romp-romp roar-roar rock and roll bill with Dig Safe, Fake Bastard, and Old Man Lady Luck.

YOU CAN BE A WESLEY “Giants” – P. Nick Curran of the Wesleys kicked off a tour Phoenix blog on his way to SXSW, which you can stay up on by keeping it locked to On The Download.

YOU WON’T “Three Car Garage” – Rising folk project also en route to SXSW, and got a nice little shout-out from Adam Duritz of the Counting Crowds in anticipation of their appearance at the Outlaw Roadshow showcase, co-presented by Ryan’s Smashing Life. Expect big things in 2012 for You Wont. Wrote AD on the CC Facebook page: "The band that opens our showcase sets the tone for the whole day so we always put a lot of thought into who plays first. They gotta be great. Ryan's Smashing Life chose Hey Marseilles to open our CMJ show & they crushed. For The Outlaw Roadshow, Ryan picked Massachusetts' You Won't. I LOVE their album SKEPTIC GOODBYE. It makes me smile.

HOUR 2 – Want to dance about it?

AVOXBLUE “The Confessional” – Solo material from the December Sound’s Jimmy Rossi, who plays O’Brien’s Pub in Allston on March 14 with Rhose Island’s Mongrel for the always-stellar Last Rites party.

COLOR CHANNEL “Pyramid of Love” – Post-punk dance/experiemental/whatever dudes hitting the Middle East on March 14 as well, part of an Out of the Blue Gallery party with Of The Sun and Lenkadu + Emmet Ceglia.

YOUNG LONDON “Dangerous” – Caught the cover stars of the Class of 2012 feature down in Providence last night at Fete, a really cool new space with a 700-person capacity ballroom – similar in style and scope to the Paradise – and a 200-person lounge. Get this joint on your radar, bands. Got the debut YL record last night, and busted out this album cut, my fave after a few listens.

SPF 5000 “Doorknockers” – A whopping seven-and-a-half minute dance floor romper from beat-minded Somerville duo, out March 6 off Nervous Records. Check it out via Soundcloud, as well as a handful of remixes.

GOTYE “Somebody That I Used To Know (DJ George Vala Re-edit)” – Speaking of remixes, this is still the best Gotye re-do, remix, re-edit or other, that I’ve heard so far, and it's from Boston's own George Vala. Gotye is at the House of Blues on March 29.

M.O.O.N. “Release (Wrong Island Remix) – Feeling all sorts of dancey, so we’ll drop this floor-crucher from Stephen Gilarde.

BATHAUS “He With Claws” – Peep my spotlight on Ashley Capachione of Bathaus in this week’s Phoenix, after I caught her show at Last Rites last month. Boston’s getting dark…

BATHAUS “Inferno (Glass Teeth Remix) - … and if you’re aware of that you’re already aware of Glass Teeth, who lends some remix action to the Bathaus track we debuted last week.

TEAM SPIRIT “Jesus He’s Alright” – Coming out of commercial break and shifting gears with Ayad Al-Adhamy of Passion Pit’s new side project, which hit Great Scott tonight with Da Pit bandmate Ian Hultquist in tow. Did you catch that Dirty Dishes show? Was fucking tops.
