A bit rock heavy tonight on the ol’ Accents, as I supposed I have our Phoenix Presents gig down in Allston on the mind. In fact, I’m writing this right now, as Young Adults perform live at Great Scott, so forgive any typos or bullshit that this playlist might contain. So it goes, so it goes. Here’s what we heard a few hours ago via the WFNX airwaves…

YOUNG ADULTS “Wasting Time” – Kicking off with the headliner of tonight’s Phoenix Presents show at Great Scott with CreaturoS, Chandeliers, and the live debut of Grand Resort. Ace track off 2010’s Black Hole, and they are playing it live in Allston right now as a I type this.

GUILLERMO SEXO “Skyline” – Latest single from the Sexo crew, who lay it down live this Thursday at Radio at Somerville alongside the New Highway Hymnal and Night Fruit.

SLOWDIM “Money” – World premiere of new Paul Sentz composition, to be released this Friday at the pill at Great Scott.

NOTHINGS THE RULE “One Can Never Win” – These dudes are currently drummer-less, according to Facebook pleas, but undeterred, they reached out to me via Twitter last week and asked how to submit music, and I told them this: Send mp3s to michael@phx.com. Digging this track and could see them doing well on a bill with You Can Be A Wesley or the aforementioned GSexo.

LEFT HAND DOES “Spandle” – Track debuted last week by the rekindled Luke Sullivan-led LHD, who are playing RIGHT NOW at PA’s Lounge in Somerville at the 3dCosby record release party.

RADIOSILENCE “Coat of Armor” – Participated in a panel discussion at Berklee College of Music on Friday, and told the assembled crowd of students they should all have business cards with their website and download cards printed on them. Afterwards, five bands gave me their music, but only one via a download card: Radiosilence. This Malden-based rock band used to be a Stone Temple Pilots cover band, believe it or not.

PROTOKOLL “Moving Forward” – This week’s throwback track goes back to roughly seven years, from the Allston post-punk crew’s 2006 debut EP. Protokoll remains my most favorite Boston band of all time, and the jokes about selling this song to Toyota (or whatever car company used the “Moving Forward” slogan in commercials back in the day) never get old. To me, anyway.

AUTOCHROME “100 Series” – Latest single premiered two weeks ago from rising post-punk quartet, who will grace the cover of the Boston Phoenix’s upcoming Spring Preview, highlighting new rock around town. Epic album release party set for March 30 at TT The Bear’s with Soccer Mom, Night Fruit and Young Adults.

EARTHQUAKE PARTY “Pretty Little Hand” – Punk trio currently on tour in Chicago. Take that, Chicago.

THE DAILY PRAVDA “Gimme Ecstasy” – By request, added last minute. Never a bad thing to get some Bowie influences into the show. Playing Saturday March 3 at the Red Room at Café 939 as part of Grownup Noise’s SXSW kickoff party with Brendan Boogie and St Helena.

GRASS IS GREEN “Umh Tsk” – Releasing new record Ronson this Thursday at Great Scott with Arvid Noe, Sneeze and Speedy Ortiz. Look for a Grass is Green track as our Mp3 of the Week in the Phoenix the day of the show.

DIRTY VIRGINS “I Like You” – Distinguished members of the Class of 2012 dropping a 7-inch Thursday at TT The Bear’s in Cambridge on a solid bill of rock and roll with Soccer Mom, Fat Creeps and Poor Everybody, curated by Mick Murray’s In Your Face Productions.

DIRTY BOMBS “In Every City” – Got a nice Dirty theme going here, can’t stop now. Band currently working on new material at a chill pace as Ian McCarthy now lives in NYC.

DIRTY DISHES “Hush” – And the Dirty trifecta is competed! The Dishes – the subject of a this Thursday’s Cellars by Starlight -- drop The Most Tarnished Birds a week from tonight, Sunday March 4, at Great Scott in Allston alongside The Devil and a Penny, Magic Magic, and...

TEAM SPIRIT “Jesus He’s Alright” -- ...this motley rock and roll crew led by Passion Pit’s Ayad Al-Adhamy. Have you seen the motherfucking video for "Fuck the Beach"? Holy shit. NSFW, bros and lasses.

BLACK FORTRESS OF OPIUM “Right Around Here” –- New record Stratospherical released at the Magic Room Gallery in Brighton this Saturday, March 3. Partying opium-style with Cooling Towers and others.

THE WRONG SHAPES “A Thousand Foxes” -– Wrong Shapes playing the venue launch of the new Davis Square Theatre in Somerville with Michael J Epstein Memorial Library and Ruby Rose Fox, with DJs from Halston and Mount Peru. Get into it.

LITTLE SPOON “Slumer” –- How do you like your pillowpop? If you like it sweet and tasty with a side of experimentation, then Cameron Potter’s new project is for you, babygirl.

AVOXBLUE “The Confessional” -– Multi-layered electronic track from Jimmy Rossi, who also toils in December Sound, which we premiered last week.

GLASS TEETH “X” -– And here comes the dark shit... (#Classof2012)

BATHAUS “Inferno” -- ...oh indeed. Check out my interview with Bathaus’ Ashley Capachione in this Thursday’s Boston Phoenix, where she explains the inspiration for her blackened ambient pop project. Caught her show at O’Brien’s Pub last week and it was magikalll.

CANCER KILLING GEMINI “Vaseline For The Vomit Queen” – CGI playing a great big ol’ queer rock show Friday, March 2 at TT The Bear’s alongside Grygiel (ex-MEandJOANCOLLINS), Full Body Anchor, and Oilhead. It’s a benefit for the Boston Alliance of Gay and Lesbian Youth. Here are five reasons why straight people should attend

SAND RECKONER “Morning Star” – Philly transplants laying up their psych rock vibe here in Boston. Record release party April 5 at O’Brien’s, named Number 2 band to watch in 2012 by award-winning music blog Allston Pudding.

GHOST BOX ORCHESTRA “Vanished” – Another Class of 2012 collective, new record expected sometime in 2012, but this here selection, first featured on the our Class2k12 comp back in January, is a lovely taste.

28 DEGREES TAURUS “Turn Me On” – Closing it out hard on a psych note with 28DT, featuring Karina also of Slowdim. Jinsen Liu of 28DT organizes the bi-annual Deep Heaven Now festivals in Somerville, and the next one is the weekend of May 5. Cinco de Mayo, bitches!

xoxo MM
