[wfnx takeover] Peter Hook on New Order's 'reunion,' Joy Division's legacy, and unfortunately-named Boston tunnels

As my car pulled out of the concrete cyclone that is Logan Airport around dinnertime Tuesday, PETER HOOK set the tone of the evening not more than 15 minutes after our meet-up. "Oh, that's a bit worrisome," he dryly offers after we approach the Sumner Tunnel (named for William H. Sumner, the son of Governor Increase Sumner -- not Bernard, my friend).

Clearly, New Order was a hot topic before Hooky's gig with the Light, where his new band, featuring his son, Jack, on bass, performed Joy Division's landmark 1980 swan song album Closer in its entirety. His "former" band recently announced two October charity reunion shows in Belgium and France; Sumner, drummer Stephen Morris, keyboardist Gillian Gilbert, a few orbit players -- but no Peter Hook.

Here's our WFNX chat with Hooky, hosted by Paul Driscoll and I, where we talked about the latest New Order drama (our guest did not hold back), the legacy of Joy Division, and his new role with Hacienda Records. We spun classic tracks from Kraftwerk, Sigue Sigue Sputnik, the Ramones, and (of course) New Order, as well as some new joints, including Manchester electronic act Humanizer off the Hacienda catalogue. We opened with a selection off Hook's latest Light EP, featuring Joy Division tracks sung by Rowetta from the Happy Mondays. Rowetta even tweeted at us during the show: @Rowetta Loving the interview. Tell him I send love x

Awesome interview, awesome show (Closer was great but how about that encore? "Love Will Tear Us Apart," "Disorder," "Shadowplay," "Transmission"... yikes!), awesome day all around. If you missed the Hooky Q&A, listen to it below. And thanks to Mick Murray for the video up top.
