ROCK SHOP is back in session this evening at Great Scott -- pre-Patriots game of course, because this is Boston and Bill Belichick rules our collective face. The hot topic of tonight's 5 to 7pm info sesh is "College Radio." Phoenix music writer LIZ PELLY will lead the discussion, joined by Phoenix web/tech intern ALI DONOHUE and one other panelist. We have no idea who the third speaker is because he/she is not in our newsroom right now.
Pelly will speak from from her experience at WTBU, where she served as music director for two years. On Thursday morning she starts a new show, Echoes/Ephemera on WZBC, specializing in home recordings, DIY labels, and demos. Meanwhile, Donohue produces Left of the Dial, a local underground music show, and hosts Sunday's punk-leaning Basement Show, both on WTBU. Word is Great Scott is hosting a BBQ as well, so get your grub on and learn what the kids are doing with all that rock and roll music.
From the Facebook invite: Past and present college radio programmers will join us to talk about the importance of college radio to the industry and the scene. More details on our panel to follow but we are expecting past and current friends from WMWM, WZBC, WTBU, and more!
This month's Rock Shop will start at 5pm and end at 7pm to allow those who want to watch the opening Patriots game of the season at 7pm the ability to do both. Great Scott will stay open for the duration of the game for anyone who wants to stay to watch the game on their big screen TVs. There is no show/dance party/etc after, so it'll essentially be a Pats viewing party.
We have two pair of really great Sox v. Orioles tix to give away at the event courtesy of our friends at Tickets.com so make sure to come on out and enter the drawing!
