[newportfolk] On-stage twitpics from Day 1: Tegan & Sara, Pokey LaFarge, Delta Spirit, Freelance Whales
...And here are some of NEWPORT FOLK FEST'S Day 1 highlights from on the stage. Standing out among a host of great Saturday performances were St Louis' POKEY LAFARGE AND THE SOUTH CITY THREE. Forget about synthpoppers or classic rock dudes claiming the "retro" tag -- LaFarge and his crew are the ultimate retro act, laying down old timey country blues and early jazz to perhaps the most diverse crowd assembled at Fort Adams. Like the previous post, this is a recap of the best twitpics from the afternoon -- follow us around Day 2 tomorrow via @BostonMusicBlog.
Put simply, LaFarge makes you want to grab your girl, spin her around, and hold her tight.
Maybe the most anticipated set of the day, Tegan & Sara, twitpic'd here minutes before hitting the Quad stage, performed an acoustic hit-laden mid-day set. We'll have video and photos of the show coming up.
Uhhh, we swear Gilliam Welch is in there somewhere.
California's Delta Spirit played a smooth indie set for the NPR crowd.
Brooklyn's Freelance Whales were an sparkling early-day treat.
Again, Welch, we swear.
