[cassette corner] Lube’s gritty sound rocks and rules
There's
something dirty and raw about Allston's new band LUBE that rubs me the
right way. LUBE is somewhat of a family affair -- comprised of brothers
Andrew and Garrett Nordstrom, and joined by drummer Justin Rizzo. The
three ex-FROGBALL members have shed their party-punk sound and silliness
for something grittier, darker and much more rock n' roll. The familial
theme doesn't end with the members' shared DNA; the band just released
two new songs online titled "Doing Drugs with Dad" and "Making Bombs
with Mom" proving that parents know how to party, too.
Their
first release, a self titled 12-minute demo, was recorded with a
4-track named "Mr. Fart." Distorted vocals and addictive guitar riffs
make the demo a must listen even if track titles like "Lice" and
"Unscratchable Itch" suggest staying away. To get your hands on a copy
of their demo email LUBE at lubesemailaddress@gmail.com.
For more modern folk who don't own cassette players you can download
and listen to their demo online for free on their Bandcamp page.
