Hey look, it's the first Phlipcam video of 2k11! After a brief hiatus we're back in action with footage from Saturday's MISTLE THRUSH reunion at the Middle East downstairs, a part of the 2nd annual Soozapalooza. It's been nearly eight years since the last Thrush show, as noted in this week's Cellars By Starlight column, but the late-90s alternative rock band showed few ill effects from the extended layoff. Breathtaking vocalist Valerie Forgione enchanted an attentive crowd, with and without Theremin, and drummer Todd Demma, who flew into Boston the day before and rehearsed his old band's songs with the aid of recordings before and during break while on tour with Cake, lived up to his esteemed "Depeche" nickname.
All in all, a pretty awesome set, and Mistle Thrush seem able to pick right up where they left off in the early 2000s. As a friend of mine remarks during the Thrush's most hypnotic moments, "Man, I miss the '90s." Let's hope for an encore, rock needs more eclecticism.
